Mary Shoes opened their doors to the public on 9th August for their first Petra Artzen art show exhibiting the most amazing ceramic shoes made in real shoe sizes with clay and colourful glazes.
Born in a family of cobblers, Petra was fascinated by the amazing shoes surrounding her, so she decided to make shoes herself...’not shoes to wear but to tell a story with them’.
'My shoes are made of white clay and every single one is unique because I do not use molds...They are put to dry for several days in my workshop, then fired at 950 degrees. After that, they are glazed and put in the kiln to fire again at 1050 degrees.' says Petra. 'I take my inspiration from everyday stories and nature. I like to make flowers, leaves and landscape. The little people on the shoes tell a story of love, loneliness or even hate.'
